Bedford Man Arrested After Driving Drunk

(MITCHELL) - 49-year-old Martin Robbins, of Bedford, was arrested just after midnight on Tuesday after he failed to stop for a stop sign in Mitchell.

According to Mitchell Police Chief Mike Hardman, Robbins failed to stop for the stop sign at Dale Street and then attempted to flee after the officers turned on his emergency lights.

Robbins pulled over after a short distance, and that is when officers noticed Robbins was intoxicated.

He refused to take a breathalyzer or do to have a blood draw done at the hospital.

In the meantime officers discovered Robbins was a habitual traffic violator and his license was suspended for life.

Police obtained a warrant for a blood draw and Robbins was taken to St. Vincent Dunn Hospital for a blood test.

After those results, Robbins was arrested on charges of HTV for life, operating a vehicle while intoxicated, operating a vehicle while intoxicatted refusal, resisting arrest by fleeing.

He was booked into the Lawrence County Jail at 3 a.m. Tuesday.
