2012 Orleans Chamber's Holiday Ornament Features Old Water Tower

Last updated on Friday, November 16, 2012

(ORLEANS) - The Orleans Chamber of Commerce has announced that the 2012 Christmas Ornaments have arrived and now available for purchase.

According to Chamber Executive Director Robert Henderson this year's ornament, the 12th in a series commemorating various Orleans landmarks through the years, features the old town water tower.

The artwork used for this year's ornament according to Henderson is based on two actual photographs including one submitted by Orleans High School student Karl Baker and a mid-1960s shot that included the tower's long missing "witch's cap top," blown off in a tornado in the early to mid-1970s.

The blue period water tower has served as a familiar local landmark on Ind. 37 at the north entrance to Orleans since 1914 and was originally a part of the town's early public water works corporation. Nearby are three of the town's original mid-1900s well houses that were restored earlier this year and stand as the town's remaining oldest public works buildings.

Only a very limited number of the collectibles are available and are expected to sell out completely within a very short time.

Each ornament sells for $10 and is now available at several Orleans businesses while they last.

Proceeds from the Chamber's annual Ornament Sale go toward the group's many on-going community improvement projects.
