(ODON) - An Odon woman died as the result of an apartment fire Saturday afternoon.
The fire started at 1:19 p.m. at Capehart Manor Apartments where a caller reported a person was trapped inside a neighboring apartment that was on fire.
Odon volunteer firemen arrived and extinguished the fire and found 68-year-old Edith Joyce deceased inside.
The state fire marshal investigated and said indications were that the fire was accidental and caused by a burning cigarette on the apartment's sofa.
The Daviess County Coroner ruled Joyce died from smoke inhalation
The fire caused the apartment complex to be evacuated. North Daviess Schools provided a bus to transport the evacuated residents.
