(WORTHINGTON) - A Worthington woman and her four-year-old son were seriously injured in a single car accident just after 6 p.m. Wednesday.

Mark Stalcup of the Greene County Daily World reports that Greene County Sheriff's Deputy Rick Marques says the 6:20 p.m. accident apparently occurred when Rheannon Peck, 27, was temporarily distracted by reaching into the back seat in an attempt to get her child back in his safety seat.

"From what we understand at this time, the driver was attending to the child who was allegedly in the back seat and trying to get out of his (child safety) seat," Marques said. "She turned around in an attempt to get the child back in his seat, lost control, struck a culvert and rolled over."

Peck lost control of her westbound Ford Explorer on State Road 157 at a curve about a half-mile east of the Pryor Bridge, Marques said.

Both mother and son were airlifted by seperate Lifeflight helicopters from the scene to Methodist Hospital of Indianapolis, with rescue crews landing near the Worthington Cemetery.

No condition reports were available from the hospital.

Hospital staff said neither had been entered into the system as admitted.

Also responding to the accident were the Worthington Fire Protection Territory Department, two units from the Greene County Ambulance Service and the Indiana State Police.
