(SALEM) - Washington County Council candidate 36-year-old Eric Worley, of Campbellsburg, was arrested on drug charges after he crashed his truck Sunday morning.

Stephanie Taylor Ferriell of the Leader-Democrat reports that Washington County Sheriff's Deputy Jimmy Strange was dispatched to a crash near the Delaney Park entrance shortly after 10 a.m. When he arrived, he found Worley, who told police his brakes had failed on his truck as he left the park. Police say Worley's truck went across the road, destroying a phone box and up on a guardrail, becoming stuck. He unsuccessfully tried to get his truck off the guardrail.

Worley was taken to St. Vincent Salem Hospital for a drug/alcohol screening after refusing one at the scene. Strange says Worley tested positive for a controlled substance.

Police found marijuana and drug paraphernalia in his truck, along with a schedule four controlled substance.

Worley has been charged with a felony count of possession of a controlled substance. He also faces several misdemeanors charges including possession of marijuana under 30 grams, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute and possession of paraphernalia.

Worley is also a member of the Washington County Park Board.
