'Up In The Air' Science Fair Draws Attention To Indiana Space Complex

Last updated on Monday, October 8, 2012

(BEDFORD) - Up in the Air Science Fair held at the Virgil I Grissom Municipal Airport Saturday drew a large crowd Saturday.

Rex Knight says the event was geared to draw attention to the Indiana Space Complex project.

The facility will be built on an 80-acre tract known as Smith Farm just west of Ind. 37 on Dixie Highway. The property is accessible via Stevens Lane.

The purpose of the complex is to accentuate the region's strong space-related heritage, assist in strengthening statewide tourism, encourage economic growth, and aid with the regional learning experience.

Lawrence County is the home of astronauts Gus Grissom, Ken Bowersox, and Charlie Walker.

Saturday's science fair was the first of several projects designed to bring attention to the project and help secure financing for the facility.
