Trial Date Set For Man Who Ran From Greene County Deputy

Last updated on Sunday, October 28, 2012

(BLOOMFIELD) - An inmate who fled from county police custody after being dismissed from the Greene County Community Corrections Program earlier this month has a jury trial set for March 2013.

Nick Schneider, of the Greene County Daily World reports, Rickey Joe Moore II, 20, of Bloomfield, made an initial appearance Wednesday in Greene Circuit Court to be formally charged with escape - a class D felony.

Circuit Judge Erik Allen set a jury trial for 9 a.m. on March 12, 2013. A pre-trial conference is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. on Feb. 20, 2013.

The law firm of Reister & Strueh was appointed as pauper counsel for Moore.
Moore is being held on $10,000 cash bond with no 10 percent allowed.

Moore bolted from county police custody on Oct. 16 and made a brief attempt to elude officers as he was being escorted from the Greene County Community Corrections facility to the county jail - a short distance away.

"When we got between the jail and Community Corrections, Moore took off running (west) toward the railroad tracks," Greene County Sheriff's Department Deputy Leon Dunigan wrote in the probable cause affidavit. "I yelled 'stop' and called on my radio to Greene County Dispatch and informed them that Moore had fled."
The freedom was short-lived.

Moore turned toward the east and ran toward County Road 70E.

"Moore stopped in a tall grassy patch on the hill by County Road 70E and squatted down. I told Moore to get up on his feet," Dunigan said in describing the end of the chase.

Moore was then transported by vehicle to the jail by GCSD Deputy Rick Marques.
Moore, who had been with the Community Corrections program since Sept. 5, was terminated from the work release program after failing a drug screen for K-2 - a synthetic marijuana product, according to a probable cause affidavit.

An order to modify his placement from the work release program back to jail was filed Oct. 17.

Moore had earlier been convicted of burglary - a class C felony - in Greene Circuit Court as part of a plea deal. One other burglary charge and two theft counts had been dismissed as part of the negotiated plea agreement.

He was sentenced to four years with the Indiana Department of Correction with two years suspended and credit was given for 99 days served in jail.

Moore qualified for the work release program and was serving his sentence at the facility, located near the county jail.

Moore was originally arrested in July after he was accused of stealing a variety of items from a rental mobile home in Bloomfield.

He was taken into custody following an investigation by Bloomfield Town Marshal Kenneth Tharp that started after landlord Rex Hudson reported that a variety of items had been taken from a Railroad St. mobile home in Bloomfield in late May.

Among the identified missing items were a bicycle rack, fencing, a lawnmower, filing cabinet, metal gates, microwave oven, fuel oil tank, metal posts, and other scrap metal.
Moore faces a Nov. 28 pre-trial conference at 8:30 a.m. on the placement modification motion.
