Students Who Dyed Hair Pink Sent To Principal's Office

Last updated on Thursday, October 4, 2012

(BLOOMFIELD) - Three football players at Eastern Greene Middle School dyed their hair pink to support their team’s first female football player and victims of breast cancer.

But late Tuesday, school officials had the boys go to the principal's office.

Tracy Siedel says instead of praise the boys received detention. Siedel says the boys were just taking a stand for something they believe in.

Siedel along with the other parents say they knew the pink hair would violate the schools dress code, but allowed it anyway.

She says initially administrators told parents of the students they could not make an exception to the rule --- but they had a change of heart.

Ty Mungle, Superintendent of Eastern Green, says officials evaluated the situation and wanted to make sure it wasn't a disturbance to the school or classroom or educational setting. He says no disciplinary action will be taken against the students.

The superintendent says the dress code is there to avoid allowing student to cause a disruption in the school. In this case, Mungle says these students' show of support was just that.
