Seymour Man Accused Of Touching 10-Year-Olds Inappropriately

Last updated on Sunday, October 28, 2012

(SEYMOUR) - Seymour police arrested a homeless man Thursday morning on a warrant charging two counts of child molesting that stem from an investigation earlier this year.

January Wetzel, of The Tribune reports, Detective Greg O'Brien said Indiana Department of Child Services contacted local police in February with information that two children reportedly had been molested by Ollen R. Brister, 59, at a residence on South Vine Street in Seymour, where he was living.

Both girls were younger than 10 years old at the time of the incident, O'Brien said.

"They gave us information that the suspect had touched them inappropriately," O'Brien said Thursday. "When we went to speak with him, we learned he had left the state."
O'Brien said he submitted the findings of his investigation to the Jackson County Prosecutor's Office, which requested a warrant for Brister's arrest.

Brister returned to Seymour as recently as Wednesday and was arrested at the police station without incident, O'Brien said.

"I think he knew there was a warrant out on him, and he knew we wanted to talk to him," O'Brien said of Brister's visit to the station.

Brister was booked into Jackson County Jail in Brownstown at 11:26 a.m. Thursday on a $10,005 bond, according to jail records.

He faces two Class C felony counts of child molesting, punishable by two to eight years in prison.

The jail was uncertain when Brister would appear in Jackson Circuit Court for his initial hearing on the two charges.
