(BROWNSTOWN) - A plan to use federal tax dollars to renovate a block-long area in Brownstown on the east side of the courthouse square has run into a snag because of the historic nature of the area.

Town Council President John Nolting says they applied from a grant, but were told by the state they couldn't tear down the feed mill.

That's because the courthouse is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

The former feed mill Nolting was referring to is owned by Rick and Linda Jo Brown in the 100 block of East Walnut Street.

That's the same block where a fire in August 2009 destroyed two other buildings.
