(MEDORA) - Medora is going pink.
The 3rd annual HOPE Medora Goes Pink Breast Cancer Awareness and Community Day, sponsored by the Medora Community Lions Club will be October 13th.
This year's motto is - Working together to Help others.
Event organizer Debi Wayman says, more than $5,000 has been given to those dealing with cancer in Jackson, Lawrence, Jennings and Monroe counties. Recipients receive a hand written letter, of hope, love and prayers with a $50 gas card and a $50 grocery card enclosed.
This enables a person to buy gas and get to a doctor appointment or treatment, and
the grocery card helps with expenses, Wayman says.
Please give of your time and talent to make 2012 HOPE a success. Anyone wanting to make a monetary donation may make checks payable to HOPE Breast Cancer Awareness/Medora Lions Club. Checks may be mailed to Debi Wayman PO Box 125 Medora, In. 47260.
Wayman says 100 percent of the proceeds will be given to those who have cancer.
The day begins with a 5K Run/Walk at 7:30 am and there will be a Community Walk, sponsored by Seymour Tubing, Inc. at 11 am.
The day will be filled with events that will provide families with fun and many good memories.
The event will feature information on cancer, prevention, and screening, food, carnival games, live entertainment, a silent auction, free face painting and nail art for the kids, horse drawn carriage rides, wagon rides to the Medora Covered Bridge, horse and mule rides, a cruise-in, other events and the announcement of the HOPE Ambassador.
Names of loved ones will be displayed on ribbons of all the colors of the different kinds of cancer along with pictures and messages on the Wall of Hope in 237 Building. This is a support system to help those families dealing with cancer. The ribbons are posted under the category of Survivors, Journey, Gone But Not Forgotten. The building will be open from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m.
Sign up for the many door prizes that will be given away. You need not be
present to win. Winners will be contacted and arrangements will be made for the
gifts to be picked up.
Below is a list of scheduled events:
7:30 a.m. 5K Run/Walk pre-registration is $15.00 and can be done by visiting www.mag7race series.com or see any committee member to register. The cost the day of the run is $20. Participants will meet on Riley Street - north side of the Medora Christian Church.
8 a.m. to 4 p.m.H&C Amusements will have inflated Bounce Castle, inflated Crawl,
Whizer (ride. A wristband is $8 and will allow the person to ride all day. The rides will be on George Street.
9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Booths will be open on Main Street, selling jewelry, crafts, handcrafted items, baked goods, homemade goat milk soap, honey and more.
9:15 am HOPE Ambassadors winners will be announced on the stage in front of the Medora Community School on George Street.
10 a.m. Food Booths open - Those include Huey's BBQ, Carr Township Conservation Club, Medora Senior Citizen's, Medora Community Lions Club, Medora Pentecostal Church, Funnel Cakes, Hope Food Booth
10 a.m. The Corn Hole Tourney will begin on Riley Street - Practice will begin at 9 a.m. Cost is $10 per 2 person team- Prizes will be awarded to the 1st and 2nd place teams. The event will be held on Riley Street.
10 a.m. The Cruise-In pre-registation is $10 or you can register that day. The event will be held at the corner of Riley and George streets. Cars will be displayed on George Street. Those who pre-register will be eligible for a drawing of a special prize to be given away.
10 a.m. to Noon - Motorcycles and Rat Bikes will be parked on Perry Street. The public can vote on their favorite. Winners will be announced at 12:30 p.m.
10 a.m. to 4 p.m.- Horse drawn carriage rides and wagon rides to the Medora
Covered Bridge (Longest covered bridge in the United States) Tickets are $1 for adults and .50 for children. Kids pay .50 for the Barrel ride. Horse and Mule Rides are .50. Tickets can be purchased at the corner of George and Main streets.
10:30 am - Pirate Pete puppet show with Pastor Derek Fields. The show will be performed in front of the Medora Community School on George Street.
11a.m. - Community Walk and Balloon Launch, sponsored by Seymour Tubing,
Inc. Participants will meet at the Medora Community School Gym Entrance on Riley Street. (We encourage everyone to walk in honor of , memory of or support of the
cause.)
11a.m. The Cool Bus will be at the corner of George and Main streets.
Noon to 4 p.m. Carnival games will be open on George Street. Tickets are $5 for 10 tickets and available at the corner of George and Main streets.
Noon - Free Face Painting and Nail Art - for children - on Main Street

The silent auction will be held from 9 a.m. until 1:30 p.m.
