(BEDFORD) - Lawrence County Sheriff Sam Craig says there is a new option for posting bond at the Lawrence County Security Center making getting somebody out of jail more efficient.

The department has contracted through GovPayNet so bond can be paid with a credit or debit card on a computer, over the telephone or in person at the security center.

Previously the only way to bond somebody out of jail was with cash at the jail or courts or through a bail bondsman.

So far in two weeks, the system has been used three times. Another good thing for county is that there is no charge for the service.

The company makes its money through a 7 percent fee that's charged to the credit or debit card.

Craig says, the bond can be posted on the Internet or by telephone 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

No inmates, however, are released from the jail between 11 p.m. and 7 a.m.

Craig says there are some things, such as an inmate number, that person posting the bond will need to call and get from the jail in order to do it online or by phone.

To post bond on the Internet, go to www.GovPayNow.com. By phone, call (877) 392-2455.
