(COLUMBUS) - An inmate at the Bartholomew County Jail is facing fraud charges.
Major Todd Noblitt with the Bartholomew County Sheriffs Department says 43-year-old James Warner attempted to defraud a pair of recent widows in late September.
Warner is accused of using obituary information out of the local newspaper to send letters to two women through their churches in an effort to prosper.
Noblitt says Warner is accused of playing on the women's grief in an attempt to obtain money. In one of the cases, he allegedly told a widow that her deceased husband owed him the money he was asking for.
Neither woman knew Warner.
Warner, who's been in the jail on drug charges since August 16, is facing two counts of inmate fraud, a Class "C" felony.
