(SHOALS) - 46-year-old Randy Scott, of Lebanon, is listed in stable condition after he fell from a tree stand Sunday night.
Scott was flown to University of Louisville Hospital after being carried from a wooded area on Indian Springs Road.
Williams Firefighter Cory Brummett says rescue workers were able to carry Scott to a 4-wheel vehicle and then transport him to an area where he could be treated for his injuries. Scott was responsive at the scene. Emergency units took Scott to a nearby landing zone where he was airlifted to the hospital.
According to Indiana Conservation Officers, Scott lost his balance after a lag-style tree step came off the bolt portion near his stand, causing him to fall more than 23 feet. Approximately four hours later he was found by a hunting partner, who called 911.
Officials said Scott was wearing a full body harness, but he had not yet attached it to the tree.
The Department of Natural Resources reports that tree stand accidents are the most common type of hunting mishaps. There have been seven tree stand accidents with injury reported this year in Indiana.
Conservation Officers strongly recommend wearing a safety harness while hunting from a tree stand.
