Brownstown Reserve Officers Added To Police Force

Last updated on Friday, October 26, 2012

(BROWNSTOWN) - Brownstown Police Department received approval to add three reserve officers during a recent town council meeting at Brownstown Town Hall.

Interviews were conducted the week before the meeting and the field narrowed to three possible candidates: Michael Maxie, Seth Pray, and David Drake, all of whom are employed with the Jackson County Sheriff's Department.

J. D. Woods, the town's current reserve officer, plans to spearhead this program with the intent to bring on three more after the first of the year.

The department hopes this extra coverage will help eliminate overtime when someone is on vacation or sick. It also will provide Brownstown with an extra police presence, without any labor cost to the city.

When asked by council members, Woods said they won't have reserves out on the streets any time soon. Woods said the training program includes almost 300-hours of in-house training.

Since Woods will do most of the training, he said there would be very little cost to the town, especially if they are able to combine their pre-basic training with the county.
