(BLOOMINGTON) - Bloomington police are investigating a wreck that killed 22-year-old Robert Chapman early Sunday morning.

According to Bloomington Police Lt. Bill Parker, Chapman was driving along North Kinser Pike just south of Rosewood Drive when his 2001 Oldsmobile collided with a tree.

Chapman was pinned inside the vehicle when emergency personnel arrived on the scene and had to be extricated from the wreckage.

He suffered head injuries and was transported to IU Health Bloomington Hospital at around 3:25 a.m., where he was pronounced dead.

Parker said there was no obvious indication as to what might have caused the accident.

Toxicology results are pending and will not be available for several weeks.
