(SHNELLVILLE) - An autopsy showed that a Birdseye man who passed away following a rollover accident Monday morning just west of Schnellville died of the injuries he suffered in the crash.

Mick Birge, of DCBi reports, the Dubois County coroner's office says 87-year old Francis Phillips was alert and talking after he had to be extricated from his pickup truck that crashed shortly before 6:30 Monday morning on Schnellville Road.

The autopsy found Phillips suffered chest trauma in the accident, and specifically his heart was bruised.

The Dubois County sheriff's office says Phillips was westbound on Schnellville Road in his pickup truck when for some unknown reason, the truck left the roadway and into a wooded area.

The truck struck several small trees before coming to an embankment and rolling onto its roof.

Phillips told first responders at the scene that he did not remember why he wrecked the vehicle. Police said he was not wearing a seat belt.

Phillips was taken by ambulance to Memorial Hospital in Jasper where he was pronounced dead at 8:14 Monday morning.

Francis Phillips is the sixth person to die in a traffic accident on Dubois County roads this year.
