(NEW ALBANY) - 36-year-old Billy Joe Dugard, of Crothersville who was indicted in April for two bank robberies in southern Indiana now has been indicted in a third in the northwestern part of the state.
Dugard has been charged in the bank robbery of a Lafayette Bank and Trust branch in Demotte, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office.
According to the earlier indictments, Dugard entered the Scott County Bank branch in Scottsburg on April 24 and presented a note to a teller demanding money. He fled after being given cash.
Dugard also is accused of entering a PNC bank branch in Pekin on April 30 and presenting a teller with a note demanding money. He then fled that bank after receiving the cash.
Hogsett said Dugard's arrest came as part of the U.S. Attorney's Violent Crime Initiative and was a result of collaborative investigative efforts by the FBI, the U.S. Marshal Service and the Indiana State Police. Several local departments, including Scottsburg Police Department, Washington County Sheriff's Department and Pekin Police Department and Demotte Police Department assisted.
