(BLOOMINGTON) - At least two local bird watchers spotted a lone American white pelican last week at Pine Grove boat launch on Lake Monroe.

John Carini spotted it Monday evening, and Andy Durkin spotted it there also.

Durkin says, the bird was standing in shallow water directly out from the parking area above the boat ramp. It preened for about 50 minutes and then as the breeze picked up, it took off at about 11:10 a.m., circled several times and then headed for the main part of the lake.
