11-Year-Old Injured After Driving ATV Through Barbed Wire Fence

Last updated on Monday, October 15, 2012

(ENGLISH) - Indiana Conservation Officers are investigating an ATV accident that occurred in Crawford County Sunday night.

Indiana Conservation Officer Jim Schreck reports that officers were called to Harrison County Hospital in Corydon, just after 4 p.m., where the 11-year-old boy had been transported for treatment.

Schreck says the accident occurred on private property in the 2700 block of Magnolia Road, near English.

The 11-year-old was driving the ATV near his home when he struck a barbed wire fence. He was thrown from the ATV and suffered severe facial lacerations. He was transported to Harrison County Hospital, and later transferred to Kosair Children's Hospital in Louisville.

Schreck says the boy was not wearing a helmet or any safety equipment.

Indiana Conservation Officers strongly encourage riders to always wear a helmet and necessary safety equipment when operating an ATV.
