(LOOGOOTEE) 36-year-old Joshua Aaron Benton, 36, of Loogootee, was arrested on multiple charges following a traffic stop by Indiana State Police Trooper Jarrod Lents at 6:25 p.m. Wednesday.

Lents stopped a blue Dodge Ram pickup on CR 1200E at CR 150N in Daviess County after the truck stopped in the roadway twice and went left of center. The driver of the truck was Benton and, while speaking to him, Trooper Lents detected the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle.

An investigation revealed an active methamphetamine lab, several drugs, drug paraphernalia and a handgun inside the truck.

Benton was arrested and transported to the Daviess County Jail without incident. He's being held without bond on preliminary charges of manufacturing methamphetamine, a Class A felony; possession of methamphetamine and illegal possession of precursors, both Class C felonies; maintaining a common nuisance, possession of a Schedule I controlled substance, possession of a Schedule III controlled substance, possession of a Schedule IV controlled substance, illegal possession of a legend drug, and illegal possession of a syringe, all Class D felonies; possession of paraphernalia, a Class B misdemeanor; and possession of marijuana and illegal possession of a handgun, both Class A misdemeanors.

Members of the Indiana State Police Clandestine Lab Team, the Daviess and Martin County Sheriff's Departments and Loogootee Police Department responded to assist Lents with the scene.
