(BEDFORD) - Bedford Police Department and an ambulance were call to the northeast corner of 14th and I streets at 8:47 a.m. after a call reporting a possible shooting.
Now officers have determine who the woman was that reported the shooting.
"It was an Orleans woman, who has a history of mental issues," says Bedford Police Chief Dennis Parsley. "Orleans officers were contacted. Officers have talked to her family and are seeking help for the woman. No charges will be filed against the woman."
Parsley, who was on the scene this morning says people who make false reports can be arrested.
"It is a crime to report an incident that is not true," Parsley says.
The address to which police initially were called was not correct and was in the 1100 block of 14th Street. Authorities then learned the correct address was an apartment house at 14th and I streets.
Multiple officers from the Bedford Police Department responded, and an Indiana University Health Bedford Hospital ambulance was rushed to the scene.
Parsley and other officers, talked to residents in the apartment house and discovered that no one was injured. The residents did give police information that could help officers identify the woman who made the call.
According to police it was a false report.
Police and an Indiana University Health Hospital ambulance left the scene shortly after they arrived.
