Republican Internship Program Accepting Applications

Last updated on Sunday, September 16, 2012

(INDIANAPOLIS) - The 2013 House Republican Internship Program is accepting applications.

The program is open to college students and graduates and is recommended to those who would like to gain professional experience as well as learn more about the legislative process.

"Over the years, I have worked with many students who have had phenomenal experiences during their internship and are able to pursue other careers due to some of the experiences they receive at the Statehouse," said Rep. Eric Koch, R-Bedford. "For any student, graduate student or those who have graduated and are interested in state government, this is a great way to get involved in the legislative process and gain valuable work experience."

Applicants from all academic majors are accepted. Interns will be compensated with a $700 bi-weekly stipend and are eligible to apply for a competitive $3,000 Verizon scholarship. The scholarship can be applied toward educational expenses for the student's current or future undergraduate or graduate studies.

The internship will be for the entire 2013 legislative session, which will begin in January and end in April. It is a full-time internship at the Statehouse, located in Indianapolis.

Individuals interested in the internship program may consider four different concentrations when applying: member services, media, computer/technology and policy/fiscal. For a detailed description of each concentration and additional information concerning the internship program, please visit www.in.gov/legislative/house_republicans, select the "Student Opportunities" tab at the top of the page, then select "Internships."

The Indiana House Republicans will accept applications for the internship program until Oct. 31. Applications are currently being accepted at the aforementioned website.

Interviews will be conducted as applications are received. Applicants are encouraged to work with their school in order to obtain academic credit for the internship -- most colleges and universities in Indiana offer class credit.

"Every year, interns play a huge role in what we do as legislators," Koch said. "The work is very hands-on, rewarding, and all interns will grow personally and professionally"
