Murderer Robert E. Lee To Register As Sex Offender

(BLOOMINGTON) - As an added stipulation of his parole, murderer Robert E. Lee will be listed on Monroe County’s Violent and Sex Offender Registry.

That registration should have happened Monday but as of 4 p.m. his name did not appear on the registry.

Lee was convicted in 1987 of the murder of Ellen Marks, a 31-year-old former Indiana University graduate student whose body was found cut into pieces and partially buried on the city's west side.

He also has a conviction, from 1973, for an attempted rape at knifepoint in New York.

Lee served 25 years of a 60-year prison sentence on the murder conviction with good-time credit, plus time off for pursuing an education. according to DOC spokeswoman Amy Lanum, Lee was released from Branchville Correctional Facility on Saturday and brought to the Bloomington Parole District Office on Packhouse Road between 8 and 9 a.m. and fitted with a GPS ankle bracelet so his whereabouts could be monitored.

Chief Deputy Michael Pershing, says 57-year-old Lee was scheduled to meet with members of the Monroe County Sheriff's Office Monday, the Sheriff's Separtment maintains the county's Violent and Sex Offender Registry, which includes recent photographs of offenders, current home and work addresses, physical descriptions of offenders and details about their convictions.
