Jackson County Farmer Backs Out On Proposed Hog Farm

Last updated on Wednesday, September 12, 2012

(BROWNSTOWN) - A Jackson County farmer has changed his mind about asking for a special exception that would allow him to build a 4,000-head hog farm near Brownstown.

Grant VonDielingin told the "Seymour Tribune" that his request would have been approved at tonight's Jackson County Board of Zoning Appeals hearing and withstand any resulting legal challenges.

He says the prospect of those challenges and the acrimony directed at him forced a change in heart. He also said the project has caused stress and frustration for his family and himself.

The location of the proposed confined animal feeding operation drew opposition from some Brownstown residents and residents of Lake & Forest Club, a housing addition. Both are about a mile from the proposed farm location.
