IU Professor Backs Mobile Sexual Behavior App

Last updated on Monday, September 10, 2012

(BLOOMINGTON) - An Indiana University professor says he’s confident a mobile app developed to study sexual behaviors around the globe will be relaunched once attorneys review it to ensure it protects the privacy of those who submit information.

The app was developed for the Kinsey Institute for Research in Sex, Gender and Reproduction. Researchers say it gives them a chance to examine issues and behaviors in different parts of the world that historically have been difficult to study.

The app had been in use since mid-August, but IU pulled it Wednesday after attorneys raised privacy concerns.

IU spokesman Mark Land says university officials want to ensure they understand the app and that it is technically sound.

Filippo Menczer, a professor of informatics and computer science, believes the app will pass review.
