Last updated on Monday, September 24, 2012

(NEEDMORE) - A garage was destroyed by fire early Sunday morning in the 500 block of McFadden Road.

Firefighters from Marshall, Oolitic, Shawswick and Pleasant Run Volunteer Fire Departments went to the blaze at 12:26 a.m. TOPES was also on the scene to assist firefighters with beverages and food.

Marshall Assistant Chief Jason Martin says the garage was engulfed in flames when firefighters were called to the scene.

"By the time the homeowners noticed the fire the garage was all ready fully involved," Martin says. "Our biggest problem is it was so close to the house."

Martin says the 2-car garage, which was only about a year old and contents were destroyed, but firefighters were able to save the home.

"It only had very minor heat damage," Martin added.

Martin says the cause of the blaze is still under investigation.

"The state fire marshal should be on the scene sometime today or tomorrow and we will know more then," Martin says.
