Dugger Man Dies After Being Involved In Bar Fight

(DUGGER) - 51-year-old Richard D. Pigg, of Dugger, died after a fight at a Dugger tavern Saturday morning.

Indiana State Police Detectives from the Putnamville Post are investigating the fight that left Pigg dead.

The fight at the Uptown Tavern, located at 8111 East Main Street in Dugger, was reported at 1:30 a.m. Saturday.

Pigg died from his injuries Saturday around 7:30 p.m. at IU Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. According to polic,e a Sunday morning autopsy revealed Pigg died as a result of blunt force trauma to the head.

According to ISP Public Information Officer Sgt. Joe Watts, Pigg and another man were inside the bar, when they got into a verbal argument.

"That verbal argument escalated and Mr. Pigg was allegedly punched in the side of his face causing him to fall and hit his head on the floor," Watts said. "Police are still investigating the incident and no other information is being released at this time, including the name of the other individual involved."

Watts, says the lead investigator is ISP Detective Tom Hanks. Assisting are other ISP detectives, the Sullivan County Sheriff's Office, Sullivan County Prosecutor's Office, Sullivan County EMS, Marion County Coroner's Office and the Dugger Town Marshal's Office.
