(BLOOMINGTON) - People interested in volunteering with the Citizen Scientist program at Monroe Lake are invited to a wildflower and snake identification training event on Sept. 11.
The event is at 6 p.m. at the Paynetown State Recreation Area Activity Center, next to the beach.
Citizen Scientist is a new element of Monroe Lake's volunteer program in which the public collects information on plant and animal populations to help the property make resource management decisions.
Citizen Scientist volunteers selected two projects for autumn, a fall wildflower survey and a snake count.
New volunteers are welcome, and no registration is required. The projects will be introduced and volunteers will be trained in basic wildflower and snake identification.
Volunteers who complete the training can collect data for the projects on their own schedule and can also participate in two group research days.
