Bloomington's Woodlawn Field Closed For Improvements

Last updated on Wednesday, September 26, 2012

(BLOOMINGTON) - Woodlawn Field is currently undergoing construction and will reopen after spring break 2013, said Jacqueline Puterbaugh, associate director of Campus Recreational Sports.

Construction began June 27 and will cost $500,000. It is funded by the University Repair and Renovation fund and Campus Recreation Sports.

The field has been leveled, and new soil and an irrigation system have been added. An asphalt track is in the works along with lighting for both the east and west side of the field. In the past, only the west side was lit.

Sod will be put down and given ample time to take root in the ground, which is important for the growing process, Puterbaugh said.

She said the closure through March isn't very different from the normal schedule.

The field is usually closed between November and March to ensure the grass is not ruined.
