(BLOOMINGTON) - Police dug into a yard on the city's west side and searched for the remains of a miscarriage a teenage girl says she buried after being sexually assaulted.
The teenage girl told police she had been sexually assaulted by a 38-year-old man she knows in September 2011.
According to LT. Bill Parker the girl says in November 2011 she believed she had a miscarriage, gathered what she thought was a fetus and buried it.
Medical experts told police the child would not have be viable and doubted police would find any remains after this long of time.
Four members of the Bloomington police, one police evidence technician and a Monroe County deputy coroner started to dig about 6:30 p.m. Thursday.
They secured the area and kept watch of the site Thursday night and resumed their work Friday morning. Parker says they found nothing.
Parker says the it is unlikely the girl will face criminal charges and police continue to investigate the allegations.
