Last updated on Thursday, September 27, 2012

(BEDFORD) - 36-year-old Alan Craig, of Bedford, who in 2007 was a Democratic candidate for mayor, was arrested after he got into a fight with one of his relatives Tuesday afternoon.

According to Bedford Police Chief Dennis Parsley, officers were called to a home in the 600 block of S Street about a fight in progress

When police arrived Craig was gone but they found a 61-year-old man, who says Craig hit him in the head, breaking his glasses and then hit him in the arm with a metal yard sign.

The man's minor injuries were treated at the scene. The victim says the two were fighting over money.

After the fight, the man told police, Craig then got into his vehicle to leave and while backing out of the driveway he rammed his car several times into the victims.

Craig was found by Oolitic Town Marshal Jon Jefferies who was patrolling on Quiet Lane. Jefferies then notified Bedford police and Craig was arrested. He was charged with battery with a deadly weapon, criminal mischief and leaving the scene of a property damage crash.
