(BEDFORD) - The Bedford Police Department will be getting a new computer software system and computers for police cruisers.
The Board of Works approved the requests Friday. Chief Dennis Parsley says the current system is 13 years old and a dinosaur.
He will be advertising for bids for the new equipment.
Parsley told the board the hardware is up to date and they will only be purchasing new software. Parsley says the computers will be tough and durable so they can handle abuse.
Computers will be mounted in each cruiser.
Mayor Shawn Girgis told the board the computers will allow officers to be more responsive.
Parsley added the computers will allow officers to spend more time in the community, instead of at the station using computers.
