Traffic Stop Results In Child Molest Arrest

Last updated on Sunday, August 5, 2012

(MARTINVILLE) - An Indianapolis man was arrested after an Indiana State trooper stopped his vehicle for an equipment violation.

According to ISP Sergeant Curt Durnil Trooper Chris Griggs was patrolling northbound State Road 37, north of Martinsville, when he noticed a vehicle that had a faulty taillight.

The driver was 27-year-old Christopher Etheridge, of Indianapolis.

While talking to Etheridge and his young passenger Trooper Griggs heard verbal clues, criminal indicators and was given conflicting stories from both Etheridge and the female passenger. Durnil says that caused Griggs to believe something illegal was happening.

Trooper Griggs continued to talk to the two and found out the female passenger was only 13-years-old.

According to Griggs, Etheridge had picked the girl up in Indianapolis and drove her to the Morgan Monroe State Forest, where the two allegedly had sex.

Etheridge was arrested and taken to the Monroe County Jail and charged with child molesting, a Class A felony.

If convicted, Etheridge could serve anywhere from 20 - 50 years in prison and pay up to $10,000 in fines.
