Sister Dies From Broken Heart After Brother's Death

Last updated on Thursday, August 9, 2012

(MITCHELL) - Debbie Miller, the sister of 47-year-old Kelly Kern, who died in an 4-wheeler accident in Mitchell Sunday, died at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis Wednesday around noon.

When 61-year-old Miller learned of her brother's death it sent her into a stress-induced cardiomyophathy, or what doctor's call broken heart syndrome. It is the temporary weakening of the heart muscle.

Miller and her brothers and sister ran Shelby trucking. Kern oversaw the garage at the trucking company, worked on the family farm and had two trucks that he just recently leased to Elmer Buchta Trucking. And Miller, the oldest sibling, did clerical work for the business.
