(SEYMOUR) - A Seymour High School student has been charged with battery and intimidation after stabbing another student with a pencil.
Assistant police chief Craig Hayes said a 16-year-old boy stabbed a 14-year-old boy with a pencil on the bus Wednesday morning.
Hayes said the older student then threatened the younger student if he reported the incident.
The 14-year-old received treatment from the school nurse and reported the incident to administrators Thursday morning, Hayes said.
"There were no severe injuries involved in the situation," Hayes said.
Hayes said the older student was taken to the juvenile center after being charged.
Transportation director Tim Fosbrink said the incident was caught on video through the bus surveillance camera.
Fosbrink said bus drivers cannot always see everything that happens on a bus and, in this situation, the driver had no knowledge of the incident.
"I know my drivers do their best to maintain discipline," Fosbrink said. "If something happens to a child on the bus, they (kids) need to tell the driver."
Fosbrink said when incidents do occur on the bus, drivers take appropriate disciplinary action.
"I wish I could say nothing ever happens, but that isn't true," Fosbrink said.
School officials, including high school Principal Greg Prange and Superintendent Teran Armstrong, could not be reached for comment.
