(SEYMOUR) - Federal authorities indicted a Jackson County man on charges of producing and possessing child pornography.

U.S. District Attorney Joseph H. Hogsett said that Lance B. Grant, also known as Brandon Grant, 29, was indicted on one charge of possessing and three charges of producing sexually explicit material involving minors.

Hogsett's office released the indictment Tuesday. It claims investigators found 14 videos and images on a desktop computer taken July 19 from Grant, a Seymour resident.

Grant was arrested July 23 and remained in federal custody, said Mary Bippus, a spokeswoman for Hogsett's office.

According to the indictment, Grant produced sexually explicit images of a girl using a digital camera and his computer between Jan. 22 and June 10 this year.

"Protecting Hoosier children is a top priority of this office, and we take that obligation very seriously," Hogsett said.

He credited the federal Project Safe Childhood team with aiding his office in "identifying and prosecuting anyone who seeks to exploit and victimize young people."

Assistant U.S. Attorney Todd S. Shellenbarger, who is prosecuting the case, said Grant faces a maximum of 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine for the one count of possession of sexually explicit material involving minors.

He also faces a maximum of 30 years in prison and a $250,000 fine for each of the three counts of producing sexually explicit material involving a minor.

The charges are the result of an investigation by the FBI's Cyber Crimes Task Force, based in Evansville, as part of the U.S. attorney's ongoing Project Safe Childhood initiative.

Project Safe Childhood uses federal, state and local reĀ¬sources to locate, apprehend and prosecute people who exploit children via the Internet, as well as identify and rescue victims, Hogsett said.
