Salem Man Arrested After Punching Wife In Face

Last updated on Friday, August 31, 2012

(SALEM) - 34-year-old William Neal Jr, of Salem, was arrested after he allegedly hit his wife in the face and knocked one tooth out and loosened several others.

Neal is charged with domestic battery, a Class D felony and was on probation at the time of the incident and has been held without bond until this morning. Bond was set at $1,500 or $1,000 surety.

Stephanie Taylor Ferriell of the Leader-Democrat reports, the woman told police she and Neal were at a local bar in the early morning hours of Aug. 16.

She came home alone and heard a noise outside a short time later. She thought it was her husband, but then heard a window break. When she went outside to investigate, she was punched in the face and the perpetrator tried to pull her over the edge of the porch. The woman told police Neal climbed onto the roof while she ran inside and called a friend, who took her to St. Vincent Salem Hospital.

Neal gave a different version of events. He says his wife attacked him, and that's why he climbed onto the roof. Officers found evidence at the scene consistent with the victim's version.
