Mitchell Man Pleads Guilty To Rape

Last updated on Tuesday, August 28, 2012

(BEDFORD) - 40-year-old Jeffery Porter, of Mitchell, entered a plea of guilty to rape, Monday morning in Lawrence County Superior Court I.

Porter's trial was to begin today, but instead he opted for a plea deal.

He was arrested in September 2010 by Indiana State Police after Porter's co-worker reported Porter had raped her in her home.

According to ISP Sgt. Curt Durnil, Porter was at the woman's home, where he had his horses boarded and was watering them on September 17, 2010

Police say Porter wanted the woman to have sex with him and when she refused and turned to leave, Porter, became angry and followed the woman, knocked her down and dragged her into the house where he forced himself on her.

The woman told police Porter bit her on the back and got on top of her making it hard for her to breathe.

In an attempt to get away, she hit Porter several times with a paint can, making Porter angrier. That is when the woman felt her only option was to do what Porter wanted or she would be killed.

After the incident, the woman went to a friend's home and then to the Mitchell Police department and then the hospital.

A sentencing date and terms of the plea agreement were not available Monday morning.
