Linton Man Who Held His Children Hostage Has Prior Arrests

(LINTON) - 38-year-old Ian E. Long, who was arrested Friday afternoon after allegedly holding his three children age 10,12 and 14-years-old hostage has been arrested in the past.

Long, who moved to Linton from Sparta, Wis., earlier this year, has two pending criminal cases in Greene Superior Court, and now will face new charges.

In May, Long suffered a head injury when his 2005 GMC Envoy struck a westbound 2005 Chrysler van, driven by Dawn E. Myers, 43, of Elnora on State Road 54, west of Bloomfield.

After making impact, Long's SUV left the roadway and traveled down an embankment before coming to rest on its top.

Long, who suffered a head injury, was taken to Greene County General Hospital and then taken by helicopter to IU Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.

Long was charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated endangering a person, operating a vehicle while intoxicated and operating a vehicle with an alcohol concentration at least .08 percent, but less than .15 percent.

A Sept. 26 pre-trial conference is scheduled in that case.

Long is alleged to have threatened and spit on two Linton police officers when they went to his home after he threatened to commit suicide.

According to a probable cause affidavit, Long allegedly had put a knife to his throat and told his wife that he was going to kill himself.

He was arrested and charged with intimidation and battery by body waste on a law enforcement officer.

A pre-trial conference in that case is set for Sept. 17.
