(SALEM) - The 9th Kentucky Cavalry will stage a reenactment at Beck’s Mill in Salem this Saturday, Aug. 11.
The group will portray a visit by Morgan's Raiders similar to what occurred on July 10, 1863. Action will start around 11 a.m. when the stage will be set by special visitors Stonewall Jackson, his wife Mary Anna, portrayed by Lori Roberts of Brownstown, and by Indiana Civil War-era Governor Oliver P. Morton and his wife, Lucinda, portrayed by Jim and Diana Gossert, Indianapolis.
Also participating will be period demonstrators such as Stephen Bowman, a lacemaker from Bedford; 2012 cornmeal bag art design winner Kellie Hilbert and many more who will add to the festivities.
Guests will be invited to share a meal, visit with the raiders and enjoy listening to the music of "Summer Breeze" from New Albany.
Admission is $5 for adults. Children 16 and under are free when accompanied by a paid adult.
General John Hunt Morgan's raid brought him into Indiana. Smaller flanks broke off from the main column and one of those flanks came to Beck's Mill. The present mill being only partially completed, the group only demanded food instead of the normal ransom in return for not touching the mill.
