(JASONVILLE) - "I'm anxious to get started," said Jeff Gambill as he spoke of his new position as elementary principal at MSD of Shakamak.

Jo Chiparo, of the Greene County Daily World reports, Gambill is replacing Chris Ross who was moved to the position of Junior/Senior High School principal following the recent resignation of Rolland Abraham.

Gambill is no stranger to the area having grown up in the Vigo/Sullivan county area and a high school graduate of North Central High School in Farmersburg.

Gambill's academic training began at Vincennes University. He then transferred to the University of Kansas on a track and field scholarship.

After suffering an injury that prevented his participation in track and field, Gambill transferred to Indiana State University at Terre Haute.

Gambill's teaching career began at South Putnam High School in 1988.

In 1992, he went to Northview High School in Clay County where he was promoted to assistant principal in 2010.

Speaking of his goals for Shakamak, Gambill said that there has been a consistent improvement in the ISTEP and he wants the scores to continue that trend.

"I'm anxious to get started and have met a lot of teachers who are already working in the building," Gambill said.

He added that he has heard many good things about the staff at Shakamak.

As far as challenges, Gambill said it would be the assessment and curriculum change in 2014, which will be going from Indiana Standards to Common Core.

"However," Gambill added, "our staff is ahead of the game and already in the process of change."

Gambill, his wife Stephannie and their three children will soon be moving to the Greene County area.
