Firefighters Extinguish Blaze At Former Bloomington Waste Treatment Facility

Last updated on Monday, August 20, 2012

(BLOOMINGTON) - Bloomington and Perry-Clear Creek fire departments responded to heavy smoke and flames at the former Bloomington waste treatment facility located just west of the Bloomington Animal Shelter at approximately 8:45 p.m. Sunday.

Bloomington Fire Department Sergeant Jayme Washel said the department was originally called to the animal shelter but followed the smoke to the vacated property.

"The damage seemed to be minor," he said. "We did have flames and smoke on arrival, but Engine 5 extinguished the fire quickly."

The property is still maintained by the city but is not currently in use.

Washel said there was minor damage to what appeared to be a storage locker.
