(CROTHERSVILLE) - A rural Crothersville man remains hospitalized after being shot in the head.

Johnathon Douglas Lee Clark, 23, was in stable condition, according to a spokeswoman for University Hospital in Louisville, Ky. She added he was moved out of the hospital's intensive care unit.

According to police, Johnathon Clark was shot in the right forehead by his grandfather, Oval Clark, during an argument around 12:35 p.m. Friday.

Oval Clark admitted to shooting his grandson as they argued in the front yard of Oval's home at 8299 South County Road 850 East.

Oval was taken to Jackson County Jail for questioning following the incident, but was later released with no charges filed.

Jackson County Sheriff Mike Carothers said he does not expect charges to be filed against Oval Clark.

"That's because of the threats that had been made prior to this shooting and what was said when the shooting occurred," Carothers said. " Johnathon Clark had threatened his grandfather," Carothers.

Carothers said on Wednesday, August 8th, police were called to Oval Clark's home because the younger Clark was holding a knife to his grandmother's throat. The grandfather was not home during that attack.

"That fight started when the grandson wanted the grandmother to take him somewhere, and she didn't want to do that," Carothers said. " It escalated from there, but the family didn't want to file charges."

Jackson County Chief Deputy Prosecutor Amy Marie Travis said the prosecutor's office will review a final report from Detective Rick Blaker, who is investigating the incident, before making any decision on or if charges will be filed against either men.

"They still needed to complete their investigation and speak with Johnathon Clark," Travis said. "Once the investigation is complete it will be sent to our office and be reviewed and then a decision will be made."
