Circuit Problem At County Jail Causes Outside Doors To Malfunction

Last updated on Thursday, August 9, 2012

(BEDFORD) - Lawrence County Sheriff Sam Craig says the jail had a problem with a circuit panel Thursday night, causing the exterior doors at the facility not to work properly.

"The problem was corrected quickly and we have procedures in place in case something like that happens," Craig says. "Anytime you are dealing with electronics a problem can happen. "

Craig says no other area of the facility was affected by the outage.

"The doors to the outside of the facility would not open electronically and had to be manual operated until the problem was fixed, but that only took minutes, if that," Craig says. "It did not affect any other area of the jail."

There was a report of a jailer being trapped between the doors, but Craig was not aware of the incident and says if a jailer was trapped it was just until someone manually opened the door.
