Changes At Campbellsburg Post Office

Last updated on Thursday, August 23, 2012

(CAMPBELLSBURG) - Changes are coming to the Campbellsburg Post Office, but residents shouldn’t notice any differences in delivery of their mail.

According to David Walton, a spokesman for the Kentuckiana District of the USPS, what is happening is that the two carriers based in Campbellsburg are being relocated to Salem, meaning they will pick up their mail at Salem, then drive to Campbellsburg to deliver it.

Window service will still be available at Campbellsburg.

"It involves relocating letter carriers, consolidating them into centralized delivery offices," he explained.

The change is to be made on Saturday.

He said the change should result in cost savings for the post office, since vehicles don't have to make multiple stops.

Jim Lyons, acting post master at Campbellsburg, said Campbellsburg has two rural delivery routes, both 95 miles in length.

Lyons said the office has been asked to reduce operating hours but did not know when that was going to happen.

The office, located on Oak Street, is now open from 8 to 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday and 7:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Saturdays.
