(SEYMOUR) - The arrests of two Seymour men accused of operating a meth lab at a rural Jackson County residence required a response by two SWAT teams.

Chris Schilling of the Tribune reports that Bradley Wingler, 36, and Jeff Browning, 29, were arrested Friday on a preliminary charge of possession of paraphernalia. Browning also was charged with possession of meth and possession of an illegal drug lab.

SWAT teams from the Columbus Police Department and Indiana State Police were called to assist in executing a search warrant Friday at the men's residence near Seymour.

Columbus Police Chief Jason Maddix said the SWAT teams were needed because of the residence's remote location and multiple barns and outbuildings on the property.

The residence was at the end of a long lane and surrounded by fields, Maddix said.

"We needed substantial manpower to secure that place," he said. "Tactically it was a nightmare for us."

A meth lab was discovered inside the residence during the search, according to the police department.

Three juveniles also were at the residence and were released to relatives.
Columbus police detectives began the investigation in Bartholomew County and developed information that led them to the Jackson County residence.

Maddix said the investigation involved a collaboration between the Columbus Police Department, Indiana State Police and the Jackson County Sheriff's Department. The Indiana State Police lab team was called to the scene to dispose of potentially volatile chemicals associated with the meth lab.
