No One Home When Fire Damages Home On I Street

Last updated on Monday, July 30, 2012

(BEDFORD) - A blaze caused extensive damage to a home in the 700 block of I Street Sunday afternoon.

The home owned by Landon Garland, was being purchased on contract by Nathanial Greer. No one was at home when the fire started.

The Bedford Fire Department received the call at 5:26 p.m.

"Firefighters could see the smoke as they were leaving the fire station and that's never good," BFD Fire Chief Jon Wagner says. "When firefighters arrived there was heavy smoke coming from the east and south sides of the home."

Firefighters battled the blaze from both inside and outside the home.

"We believe the fire started in the kitchen area and there was heavy damage there and to the rooms off the kitchen," Wagner says. "There was also fire in the attic area."

The cause of the fire is under investigation and BFD Investigator David Wright will be on the scene this morning.
