National Guard/Reserve Group Honors Ambulance Service

Last updated on Tuesday, July 17, 2012

(BLOOMFIELD) - The Office of the Secretary of Defense Division of Employer Support of The National Guard and Reserve has paid tribute to the Greene County Ambulance Service and its director David Doane for allowing its employees to readily serve their county when called to active duty.

The plaque notes the award is presented in "recognition for contributing to National Security and protecting liberty and freedom by supporting employee participation in America's National Guard and Reserve Force".

A letter came from Indiana ESGR Chair Roger Peterson.

He wrote, "As an employer, you are vital to enabling your employees, who are members of the National Guard and Reserve to serve their country. Moreover, your active support and encouragement are imperative to their success."

Doane was also presented with a Statement of Support for the Guard and Reserves signed by Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta, National Chair of Employer Support of The Guard and Reserve (ESGR) James Rebholtz.

Doane and the ambulance service were nominated for the award by paramedic TSgt. John McCammon, of Carlisle, who also serves active duty in the Air National Guard.
He's a 24-year veteran of the military.

McCammon has worked for the Greene County Ambulance Service for about seven years and is currently assigned to the Jasonville EMS station.

In his nomination, McCammon lauded the Greene County Service and its director for being cooperative and supporting his efforts to continue serving his country.

McCammon, who also serves as a Sullivan County Commissioner, is frequently deployed for short of one week to a couple of month military assignments on domestic orders, Doane explained.

"John's doing service for our country and it's our obligation to let him off so he can fulfill his duty with the Guard," Doane said in humbly accepting the award. "It's the right thing to do.

"I think this award is really nice. I appreciate what they (the Guard) do."
