(BEDFORD) - The mysteries of two found urns of cremains have been solved.
Mike Ricketts of the Times-Mail reports that the urn, found near Leatherwood Creek at Slaughterhouse Bridge, shouldn't have ended up there.
A woman who moved from Bedford to Florida contacted local authorities to claim the urn and ashes, according to Bedford Police Department Chief Dennis Parsley.
The family had moved out of state and the urn was left behind, Parsley said. It was to be shipped to the woman at a later date, but then was mishandled.
The woman has requested city police return the ashes to her.
"We are going to ship the urn and its contents to the family," Parsley said.
The second urn - located at the edge of the White River near the boat ramp down from Ind. 37 - had been tossed into the river on purpose, according to a man who wished to remain anonymous.
The remains were those of his mother's boyfriend and he took possession of them when his mother died.
The man said he decided to dispose of the cremains in the White River because his mother's boyfriend had spent many years of his life on rivers.
The man didn't feel he had a use for the brass urn so he tossed it into the river, too.
The anonymous man said he didn't want the remains or the urn returned and they could be returned to the river.
In the case in Bedford, a man fishing in Leatherwood Creek found that urn and ashes this past weekend. That urn was busted and some of the ashes were missing.
And the brass urn which was unopened was found by someone at the boat ramp in April.
